College Day 1

I didn't go to freshman orientation. I didn't interview my college, and I didn't go on no goddam tour. First time I laid eyes on campus I was living on it; I brought my box of clothes and my box of records (the majority of which were copies of Leave Home and Road to Ruin...one was never enough back then) and a notebook to fill up with letters writing my girlfriend every day how much I loved her and missed her and that we'd, of course, always be together. Poor Sistatime!! had to accompany my little brother up the stairs while we took the elevator cause he was scared shitless of the elevator. This was of course back in the day when you could turn you 13 year-old daughter loose on a college campus with a 4 year-old boy without worrying. I dropped my two boxes on the floor and looked around at my new digs: 4 gray cement walls, 10 strories up. My mother was standing in the doorway for about a split second before my father popped his head in, said "looks good, let's go" and that was that. And since I was doing work study, I was there a few days before pretty much everyone else on my floor; save for "Wolf" who spent the evening telling me that he got his nickname cause he always got caught fucking all his friend's girlfriends. Sweet.
