1. The GOP knows it has only won the popular vote in one presidential election since 1988. They know they’ll never, ever win any national -level elections based on pure numbers anymore.
2. Doesn’t matter - they just gerry-rigging districts to their liking.
3. Oh oh they still don’t win! Oh no, Republicans!
4. It doesn’t matter - they’ve willed the media into saying that the only important thing in a democracy is pleasing the minority, so nothing gets done
5. Until it does! Then a whirlwind kicks up of policies Republicans HATE! Oh no, everything they believe in will be down the tubes, since they are in the minority!
6. Oh that’s right nothing is more important than pleasing the minority so yeah we’re gonna need 60 votes, not 51
7. Aaaaaaaaaaaaand in the end it won’t matter anyway since they’ll send everything to the Supreme Curt to deliver back in their favor anyway
8. Rinse, lather, repeat
Again - it doesn’t MATTER if Republicans never win elections! The media and Democrats have set everything up so that Republicans, who don’t want to govern anyway and for whom the Holy Grail of Existence is getting to be “the victim”, can just keep losing yet hold onto the same - or, incredibly, more - power than the Democrats. And then there is no need for them to be remotely serious about governing since their entire raison d-etre if elected is to just not do anything anyway.
Republicans have brilliantly set lives up for themselves in which they get to go around spewing whatever shit they want, ruin however many peoples lives as they want and get handsomely paid for it for the rest of their lives, all without the trouble having to fairly be elected or actually doing the work.
All they care about is kicking around making a big show of being a victim, nothing else. Incredible.
