When Please Kill Me came out I laughed - such a non-substance, non-musical, drug-glorifying collection of garbage, the likes of which I had never seen.
Yet I promise you 90% of my friends have it, but not it's (in my head, as I had already memorized it) antecedent, From the Velvets to the Voidoids. To say nothing of England's Dreaming by Jon Savage.
I'm so old that while in college I actually called Rolling Stone magazine, told them I wanted to write a paper on the Clash. They were so baffled that they actually SENT mimeographed copies of every article on the Clash that had been in RS, along with a personal note "Greg - hope this helps, let me know how it goes."
Ah well. My point is - if you've read Please Kill Me but not From the Velvets to the Voidoids, we ain't boyz.

Well, I thought Please Kill Me was pretty good, but now I need to put another book by the nightstand. Why don't you guys tell me these things earlier?
