The book is about all the adversity Brees has had to overcome throughout his life, starting with his having to fight through being born with enough natural talent to play football for a living and make millions of dollars. For instance, did you know that no Division I colleges offered him a scholarship to play football? Oh, wait...except Purdue. Which is...in the Big 10. Okay, but still, how about when he had surgery, and no NFL team would come near him?...oh, wait, except they did. The Saints. His days getting paid zillions to wing the ball around in perfect 68 degree weather in San Diego must have been particularly difficult for Brees to square with a God so evil to place him in such a predicament to have to overcome.
And of course Brees ties his tale in with the city he won a title for:
"The comeback stories of Drew Brees, the New Orleans Saints and the city of New Orleans has inspired the nation," said Tyndale Sr. Vice President and Publisher Ron Beers in a press release. "But there is so much more that people don't know.Yes. Brees' Hickory Husker-esque, against-all-odds journey to the top of the heap perfectly mirror the people whose lives were destroyed by Katrina. People who, I suppose, are now supposed to shell out money to buy Brees' book.
"Unfortunately, we're living in an economy where a lot of people are being forced to stage their own comebacks. Drew's story and message of perseverance in the face of adversity is something that everyone can learn from."
