Bitter Birds of Youth

Alyssa Rosenberg on the "disappointing" evolution of the hot chick from Parks and Recreation that every dude in the world is in love with:
I know some folks have been disconcerted by April’s slow evolution on Parks and Recreation from someone who essentially hated everything, to someone who loved Andy, and is now exploring the possibility that she might like some thing or some idea enough to work for it enthusiastically. But I think that it would be a violation of the show’s core ethic if April stayed static and didn’t find an opportunity to succeed and enjoy it.
This reminds me of when Op and I joined the Williamsburg Softball League in 2003. We assumed everybody hated us and would turn their noses up at us, so we parked ourselves next to the Turkey's Nest toilets (Favorite Playah shoutout!) and hated on everybody. To our great disappointment, over the years we learned that most everybody was actually really nice, if not way nicer than ourselves, even. It was a total fucking drag in a way that can only happen in your youth.

Well. Early 30s, anyway.
