Apparently Saturday there will be a War Dog Memorial in California. About ten years ago I read Always Faithful: A Memoir of the Marine Dogs of WWII and I'm still stunned at the success rate these dogs had at sniffing out enemy mines, therein saving thousands of lives and playing no small part in winning the war. Also, their keepers would grow so close to the dogs they'd come to see the dogs as full-fledged soldiers themselves. I haven't read any of the books mentioned in the article I linked, but Always Faithful is one I highly recommend. And I'm glad these dogs are finally getting their day.
Two Xmas Paws up!
