....of all time. Period. Will not be topped. And that smug look on Merle's face as he starts it, completely belying any of the aw-shucks humbleness each of the characters was drenched with throughout the movie is beyond priceless.

Gene Hackman in the role of his career, and that career includes playing Popeye Doyle and Royal Tennenbaum. When he says "I love you guys" to his squad right before they go play the big town team for all the marbles I choke back my manliest tears. Every time. And the flick even throws in Sheb "Flying Purple People Eater" Wooley as the fair-spirited but terminally ill school principal.
Why did Dennis Hopper get all the acclaim for his very small role when this movie would probably stink without Gene Hackman?
