Yeah, and this year the Yankees will be keeping them company in the toilet.

Now see, this is where the Mets fan gets hisself in trouble: comparing the Mets to the Yankees.

The Mets have won exactly nothing in 22 years. Yet if you listen to the Mets and their fans, they’re perennial winners. Unreal. They’ve been on a victory lap since Opening Day LAST year, and still find themselves with as many playoff appearances in that same time as, say, The Jackson Five.

Hey, hate the Yankees all you want. And they did suck this year. But Ill make a deal with you, BM: the next time the Mets go 15 years between missing the playoffs, during which they win 4 rings and 6 pennants, I will come to your house and make you a 7-course dinner in a Mets apron.

I was comparing the Mets to the Yankees this year. I'm not living off the fumes of the past. They both ended up in the shitter which I'm sure is delightful to baseball fans in other parts of the country considering how much more money the NY teams have to attract the best players (let's not forget that those 4 rings and 6 pennants were largely paid for by Steinbrenner's larger coffers).

Hold up! I currently have a very strong resentment for Brian Cashman of the Yankees because he now thinks he can simply buy talent and win championships. But the Yankees Dynasty from 1996-2000 was a result of home grown greatness (Jeter, Posada, Mariano, Bernie, Pettitte, El Duque, etc).

Of course the Yankees had to pay some of these guys big bucks, but isnt that a good thing? To develop players, and when they get good, to reward them?
