I just watched the Real Sports episode re: the insane rise in football and basketball season tickets; in particular here in New York. The Yankees, the Mets, the Giants AND the Jets are all getting brand new stadiums at the same time, and each team is using this opportunity to completely rape the fans with impossible new ticket prices along with newly-invented "Personal seat licenses" that are basically a $20-$30K entrance fee...even if you've had tickets for the last 30 or 40 years.
Okay, this is not a new thing. The real fans will get moved aside for the corporate seatings. The same shit sandwich we've always been served. But even in NYC, aren't there a limited number of people (corporations) that can afford these season tickets; or at least be bothered to buy them? And, what with four different teams in the city simultaneously pulling this move, wouldn't it be up to the same (semi) small group of people to buy up all the tickets? Is this really going to happen? Are there really 60,000 people who are YankeeMetsGiantsJets fans looking to drop about half a million bucks a year to not show up at games? Really?
