Last night after the Super Bowl I started watching
American Experience, which was about Robert Oppenheimer. And of course it started at midnight, as PBS loves to bury great shit when nobody's watching. Grrrr. I could only make thru the first 20 minutes or so before giving in to sleep, but one thing they said caught my ear and I thought it to be funny and prescient.
"Oppenheimer's two great loves were physics and the desert; as a young man he would often dream that he could somehow combine the two."
Which cracked me up - maybe it came up later, after I had fallen asleep, but all I could think was "boy, did he ever find a way!!!!"
