Sad Ending

This is a sad story; apparently the guy who famously got traded for 10 bats a few years ago has died, possibly of suicide.

So some are making this out to be the tragic story of a ballplayer who was haunted by his failures in the game, forever dogged by the novelty circumstances of the famous trade.

How truly great you have to be to be a professional athlete really has no perspective to gauge itself; I'm sure me and everybody else howled with laughter at the trade when it happened, and it makes him look foolish, and implies he was a shitty ballplayer. And he probably thought himself a complete failure. But odds are that with rare exception he was probably better than anyone you or I ever played with or against. A strange thing.
