Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) knocked Obama via Twitter Friday, criticizing the president for his response the hostage situation involving pirates off the coast of Somalia. “The correct answer to piracy is to destroy it not negotiate with it Seals can retake the lifeboat Track every boat leaving Somalia,” Gingrich tweeted.
Newt Gingrich's "tweet" (grrrr) on how Obama should handle the pirates has bugged me for the last day or two; his "you do not negotiate with pirates" echoing the usual "we don't negotiate with terrorists" line tough-ass people like him like to espouse while sitting in their $1000 suits. I tried blowing it off to as-per-usual GOP faux-toughness to impress idiots with more guns than teeth. But what gnaws at me is not only is this wrong, but it's a STUPID thing for someone in his position to say. Lazy, "to sound like a tough guy, please press 1" nonsense.
The pirates held people hostage in the hopes of exchanging their safe return for a bucket of cash. Now, during this if you wanna take a shot at the pirates, that's fine. But this is not someone in Gaza entering a pizza parlor and setting off a belt of explosives - the pizza terrorist doesn't say "give up Christianity or I'm blowing this shit up." Meanwhile the pirate wishes for open dialogue as we would; it's to his advantage to be speaking with the powers that be so he can get his money. Ergo a hostage situation is, BY DEFINITION, a NEGOTIATION. If you can keep talking with the pirates long enough to get the situation under control without people dying, it's what you do. Save "kill e'm all, let God sort 'em out!" for t-shirts bought by retards, not maritime policy.
It's bad enough we gotta deal with this fake Charlie Daniels-esque "kick ass!" nonsense; these people have to be stupid too?
