I spent yesterday evening listening to Republicans SQUEALING with glee re: Pelosi apparently having been made aware of the torture memos et al. I remember being confused as to how this is a victory for the GOP - unlike Bush/Cheney et al, Pelosi didn’t write the memos, or come up with the policy, or enforce the actual use of torture. Also, there being someone on the other side of the aisle in trouble doesn't really exonerate anybody else, I would think. But hey, I'm happy for them, they need something to gloat about other than Obama reading from a teleprompter.
Of course after about 24 hours, it now looks like nobody seems to really know what she knew or was told, or what any of it even means. Shocker.
But at this time yesterday, I was like "well, if she was okaying torture then she needs to go down too." And I still am. As in, my loyalty lies more with being part of a country that does not sanction illegal torture than with the Speaker of the House merely cause she’s a Democrat; unlike people on the right who are willing to scream in favor of something like torture to save their precious Cheney/Bush crew. I think those people gloating on the radio have greatly misjudged how much blind faith someone like me has in our leaders. Unlike them, I don't start with whomever is in power of my party and then walk backwards re: "okay, what can I live with?"
