D-Day

Whenever I think of D-Day, I think of two things: how did ANYBODY survive storming Omaha Beach, and also one of the greatest coincidences of the last century, the clues in the Daily Telegraph leading up to the attack:

During May 1944 the Daily Telegraph crossword contained the following answers -

'Utah', 'Omaha' which were the code-names for beaches in Normandy where U.S. forces were to land.

'Mulberry' which was the code-name for the floating harbour.

'Neptune' the code-name for naval support.

'Overlord' the code-name for the entire operation.

The compiler, Leonard Daws, was interviewed by MI5 and cleared. But it did cause quite a panic in high places.

Whack shit, eh?
