Horse Heroes

In reading something about Winfield Scott this morning I was reminded of the Civil War monument tradition of presenting the horse with a raised hoof for an officer who had been wounded in battle. Raised hoof? What the fuck is this for? Is this to present the image of the horse trying to deflect the bullet? What a horse!! Maybe so that once the guy heals and sees the statue, I guess the horse can say "see, I tried to save you!" Hey, if Hitler had been known for riding a horse around, would his statue have the horse doing the HEIL! salute?

Man. Is there NOTHING that isn't funny about the War of Northern Aggression?

Hey, there's a statue of the 'Dolpher where his horse is doing just that right down the street from me! How weird! BTW, is that Will's great granddad?
