In 1941 Joe DiMaggio and Ted Williams, over the whole season, struck out a total of 40 times combined.
Today, only halfway through the 2009 season, and with diluted 5th-day expansion pitching, 141 hitters have already struck out 40 times including several who have, incredibly, struck out 100 times already. Wow.
