Youkilis

People are trying to get excited about Kevin Youkilis' getting tossed around on the mound the other day being the clanging of the bell the Sox need to go charging towards another pennant, comparing the incident to the Varitek/A-Rod confrontation in 2004. While I never count the Sox out and would never expect them to go away quietly as they're a good, scrappy team with a great manager, my feeling is that unless something changes this year, they simply don't have the horses. In other words it's a lot easier to have some sort of "season changing rallying point" when you have guys like Manny/juiced Ortiz/Johnny Damon in the lineup everyday after said incident. I'm sure throughout the years fans in KC or Pittsburgh have gotten excited about "season changing!" incidents which nobody else in the country heard about because their seasons flamed out afterwards.

But hey, it's good to be reminded of that day in 2004 when Varitek bravely took on A-Rod without bothering to take off his mask, helmet or catcher's mitt.

Not exactly D. J/Bird stuff, was it?
