We probably first hear the word "computer" in 5th grade, which would be 1982-83, and I can remember my friend Mark ("Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuff!!!) on the bus with me all excited about getting a computer and using it to do all his homework. He said it'd be great, all you'd hafta do is type in "who was the 14th president of the US?" and the right answer would come up, and of course he was greatly disappointed when I told him that it didn't work that way, the computer could only tell you what you programmed into it.
And here we are today, where you can do exactly what he was talking about. Incredible.
