Our Insistent March to Ignorance

Between things like congressmen having to use political theater for C-Span making the "backroom deal" obsolete since we insist on being treated like little children, party purity tests ensuring that the good will be sacrificed for the seemingly perfect (see this guy here, kicked to the curb by the Tea Party for a mere 93% conservative rating) and the ever-pervasive "gotcha!" brand of political media we've latched ourselves onto ensuring that some sort of piety is more important than actual governing towards the good of the people, it's pretty clear what kind of leaders we're determined to end up with in government: the political and intellectual version of the "why would I want the outcome of my life determined by someone who wasn't smart enough to get out of jury duty?" riff.
