This is Xmastime

Is This is England the greatest example of:

1) a great band's greatest song being on it's (by far) worst album (one that the band itself doesn't actually acknowledge)

2) a great band's greatest song coming after it's singularly most musically talented member has been kicked out of the band?

3) How fucking awesome would it be if Kate marches the four minutes down the aisle to this at The Royal Wedding?  :)

Sometimes you are just insane. Best song? The drum track is like someone put Hit Stix up their ass and ran up and down a 5 story walk-up until they couldn't stand it anymore.

Far from their greatest song, but a good one none the less. Probably the last decent Clash song.

The whole problem with that effort- besides the obvious void Mick Jones' departure had created- was that the England they were and had been railing about was about to pass into history. Inflation, race riots, and endless years on the dole were giving way to economic prosperity and renewed prestige.

A shame as the Bush years, global real estate collapses, and terrorism would have given a reunited Clash a new lease on life (paging John Lydon and Paul Weller...).

RIP Joe Strummer

I don't even know how to respond to this, X. I mean, if "This Is England" was from almost any other band, it would be dismissed as the dreck it is. Yet, the deification of Joe Strummer continues. Good grief!
