Wow.

Great note HERE re: the comically absurd large number of albums from 1992-2000 that have made it onto the list of Greatest Selling Albums of All Time, despite being mostly horrendously shitty and forgettable, particularly when placed next to the true lions on the list (I don't wanna sound like a snob - perhaps you think the Backstreet Boys and N'Sync both put out two albums during that time that belong next to, say, The White Album?):
34 albums released between 1992 and 2000 whose median quality can be charitably described as “crud.”  These albums aren’t just somewhat worse than the others. They’re so mediocre and forgettable that I’m worried they’ll somehow infect the others...Basically, the soundtracks of what happened to be the most popular movies of the time, whatever albums the most popular boy bands, pop divas, and pop/country acts happened to release at the time, some adult easy listening favorites, two legitimately important hip hop albums, some decent albums by mainstream artists that in any other era would have sold a tenth as many copies, and not one but two albums powered by deathless vocal stylings of Rob Thomas from Matchbox Twenty.
Believe me, the list is worth seeing.
