On August 28, 1963, Marlon Brando, James Baldwin, Harry Belafonte, Charlton Heston, Joseph Mankiewicz, and Sidney Poitier gathered to discuss the Civil Rights Movement. Hosted by David Schoenbrun of CBS, the discussion occurred following the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. It’s both fascinating and poignant to hear how each of these men where personally affected by and involved in the Civil Rights Movement. How strange is it to see Charlton Heston without him waving a rifle around, demanding the non-existing threat to the single-most important amendment to the Constitution were we still in the 1700's be stopped?
Also, woulda been funny if someone said "'Mankiewicz'? Who brought the Heeb?"
Mostly, it's troubling (and, ironically, racist) that none of these gentlemen note that 47 years later on that very date, Glenn Beck would lead another freedom march to finally remove the yoke of oppression choking the wildly uninformed, scared whites of the real America. That makes me sad :(
