Absurdity.

I have no idea what implications for 2012 the Democrats losing Anthony Weiner's seat hold, but as I said BEFORE THE ELECTION, it's a reminder that people are perfectly fine with war criminals, Wall Street thieves, torture, pointless wars, corrupt politicians and bold-faced liars, but for some reason can't stomach a sex scandal, even if there's no, you know, sex.  Presumably to showcase how God-fearin' and family values-lovin' they are, unlike the Satanist dick-pic taker.

We'll never know. The man who lost the race was not tarred by a sex scandal.

Some sexed up politicos have done well when they fessed up and stayed the course -- Vitter, Studds, Frank, Sanford.

Some did not fess up but still held on for a bit -- Craig.

The ones who resigned before testing their mettle, like Weiner, Ensign, Lee, Souder, Spitzer, Massa and McGrevey, are just pussies (or, more likely, did things beyond the sex or during the sex or to get the sex that worsened the nature of the offense).

In short, your premise is wrong (and hackneyed) and your conclusion faulty.

I chalk it up the soon-to-be-released "Edwards goes down on a pregnant Hunter" sex tape.

As for Weiner, he's a turd of the worst order, not because of his fetish, but because he tried to fob it off on unseen enemies and hackers and pranksters and he had the audacity to become affronted ("how dare you?") when an incredulous press didn't turn out to be as retarded or in his thrall as he'd hoped.

i said a million times for him not to resign.
http://xmastime.blogspot.com/2011/06/dont-resign.html

my premise isnt faulty; as I said, instead of voting for another Weiner politically, voters swung all the way in the opposite direction, http://xmastime.blogspot.com/2011/09/oh-for-fucks-sake.html

which drives me insane (see people who voted for Obama, havent been thrilled and so wont bother to stop, say, Bachmann from getting elected)

cant waitfor the tape - watching the back of that beautiful head of hair AND some titties??!?!?!!?!!!!

The internet shenanigans made him look silly and a little creepy. I agree. So what? Perfectly survivable.

But the denials, cover-up and the just oily attempt at ass-covering was so grotesque that resignation seems perfectly reasonable.

And the voters didn't reject another Weiner. They voted against a different Democrat at a time wholly different than when Weiner was elected.

You have an amazingly static and insular conecpt of politics, almost Soviet. While many Obama fans are of your extreme persuasion (i.e., "he can stick a malt liquor bottle up my ass and still be my man because Palin haunts my dreams"), many of his supporters are not quite so dedicated. After nearly a full term, it seems reasonable that some of them have become disenchanted and aren't quite so easily herded into line by "YOU'LL GET BACHHANNNNNN!!!!!! STAY THE COURSE!!!! STICK WITH THEOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!"

rational to me is "Obama has been disappointing, but obviously since he can disappoint me I want, if not Obama, someone as close to Obama as possible." the "aw, fuck it" wave of the hand and allowing the pendulum to swing further than it needs to is inane to me. But I went to The Harvard on the Appomattox, so Im smarter than most people.

Everything Weiner did was wrong and stupid. Most of all, quitting. Ugh. AND his wife hasnt dumped him, so I can swoop in!

"rational to me" is your problem because it demands a point of origin that apes your own. So, if your doppelganger says "aw, fuck it" and writes a check to Bachmann, then I agree - it's insane.

But I found it entirely rational for folks to vote Clinton over Bush, Gore over Bush, Kerry over Bush and Obama over McCain, even though I supported the GOP candidate.

Regardless, trust me - Obama could not have been elected solely by the enthusiasm of grooving progressives such as yourself. You keep thinking, "those asses are going to turn on him for not closing Guantanamo," as if the disenchanted and rigid left are the only people to consider. Meanwhile, jug ears is positively bleeding independents.

Weiner's wife is smoking. His penis, however, is not so stellar that he should be photographing it.

But what was it syupid for Weiner to quit?

After all he did AFTER the dick pics, weren't you like, "Oh, man, just get the fuck out."

im not talking about swing voters, im talking about the kids you hear who stormed colleges stumping, and now are miffed he's not delivering rainbows and puppies so are checking out, instead of pushing him for rainbows and puppies, or finding the next closest guy.

meanwhile, Weiner's district is 3-1 democratic, and hasnt gone Republican since 1924, and Weiner is an openly liberal progressive that they were happy to vote for; their suddenly voting in a Republican instead of "a version of Weiner but having learned the lesson to not do dumb shit with a camera" is not the work of a lot of districts, where sometimes its blue, sometimes it's red etc. Thats my point re: this smells of "we need to prove to America how great our family values are", shooting themselves in the foot as liberals.

For example, Vitter ends up on a call girl list. I'm with you. Don't quit.

But what if he held a press conference and said it was a different Vitter.

And a day later, held another press conference and blamed the smear on The Huffington Post.

And then later, said it was all a joke and it was just the one list, and the he turned up on three other lists.

And then he tearfully admitted all fault.

I mean, camon! Resignation seems pretty reasonable at that point.

not at all, from jump street i was yelling DONT QUIT!!! i prolly even pulled out my tried and true "sex scandals are like buses, just wait a few minutes and another will come rolling up" bit. woulda been long forgotten by now. as usual, Dems have learned nothing from Bill The Master

Like, I said. If your talking about you and your ilk, I agree.

As for Weiner's district, you may not have noticed, but all those reliable Democrats and Democratic-leaning indies are not as enamored of Chocolate Carter and his policies. And that has a tendency to make them less than the sturdy apparatchiks you prefer.

And I hear the Democratic candidate was a douche who couldn't even vote in the district.

I know you expect lockstep, but sometimes, the peasants revolt. Call them lazy, stupid, ill-informed, disloyal and the types who just don't know how good the Democrats are to them, but there you have it.

It has shit to do with family values. Weiner wasn't running.

You're being obtuse. Was it reasonable for Weiner to quit given his post-internet evasions, dodges, lies and slanders? You know, just because you wrote something once doesn't mean you have to hang on to it to the point of retardation.

They say that the epitome of political zombification is when you can't even fathom why people don't think the way you do or support the policies and politicians you support.

Unable to even imagine such a reality, all who abandon what you cleave to like mother's milk become heretics or aberrants.

Oh hell! "They" don't say that. I did.

Xmastime said...

first of all, I applaud your restraint re: waiting so long to pull out your tired "you're irrational zombie!" line.

Im very aware theres plenty of people who dont think like i do. im very aware 50 million people didnt vote for McCain just because he's white.

my point is that the people from Weiner's district DID think like me! And yet on a dime they spin away because of him acting like a horny teenager. my point is the uniqueness of the Weiner district, not that it would be a surprise anywhere else.

Marley said...

"the people from Weiner's district DID think like me!"

And yet, given knew information and circmstances and experiences, they changed their minds.

Those traitorous pricks!

knew is the knew new.

hey, i WISH my party voted in lockstep like you guys; yall cant get a quorum to refute that the world is flat.

my point, which you have missed the first 24000 times, is WHY they "changed their minds." you say its a referendum on Obama. maybe youre right, but then youd hafta presume that in theory they woulda voted Weiner out next year, which i doubt. i wondered if it was a "we hafta show our disapproval of this specific behavior to show we're such nice people, even if it goes against our own interests" thing. maybe im right, maybe im not. certainly no one's saying either candidate was particularly compelling.

for the future, let's just accept that I'm rabid in my irrational zombie-like,unthinking devotion to Obama while youre the reasoned. logical open-minded noble patriot as a given, so we don't hafta waste time with your saying it fifty times a post.
