At various points in his career, he's been the savior of rock 'n' roll, an American hero, a working-class poet and, perhaps above all, the icon of the Church of Bruce (or, if you prefer, "Bruuuuuuuce"), with fans hanging on to every utterance, every ticket stub. He's a guitar god, a multimillionaire, a family man.Of course this opens itself up to guffaws from Marley, or Brothatime!! ("hey, is this one about a train coming down the tracks? Does Bruce have any songs about driving down the highway? Really?"), but do you think Bruce The Boss Springsteen gives a fuuuuuuuuuuuck?!?!?!
But Springsteen hasn't forgotten.
"The deepest motivation comes out of the house that I grew up in and the circumstances that were set up there, which is mirrored around the United States with the level of unemployment we have right now," he told European reporters in an intimate discussion about his new album, "Wrecking Ball."
