schadenfreude is the product of an insecure mind and me mind is secure. before game 1 of the division series Joe Yankee Fan presumably had to manage twin anxieties: the recognition that his team aint what it was and the suggestion that maybe, just maybe, this scrappy oriole team is one of destiny. in game 1 the yankees smacked the orioles where they breathed and Joe Yankee Fan went to bed easy under a familiar blanket of condescension. in game 2 the orioles played sloppy but smart and won. in the run up to game 3 tomorrow night Joe Yankee Fan presumably must again manage twin anxieties: the recognition that his team aint what it was and the creeping sense that maybe, just maybe, this scrappy oriole team is simply better. ive said all along that whatever the orioles do after win 82 is gravy: theyre built for next year and beyond, but if they can inspire introspection from the most obnoxious along the way? wu tang. There's a lot of nonsense/insecurity to unpack in this small paragraph, most of all the "oh but we were only expecting to go .500 so this is gravy" caveat tucked away at the last minute, but I think "Joe Yankee Fan" today is thinking less about "good vs. evil" and more about the fact that if 65 year-old Andy Pettitte gives up 2 runs in 7 innings and your #8 hitter has hit 43 home runs this year, you should win the fucking ballgame for fuck's sake.

good v evil???
you never knew how good you had it. i wld say welcome to the 80s, but there is the always the matter of payroll, which im sure you will spin in that way you do. like i always say, good for you guys! i love america!!!
we DO know how good we have it. or at least I do. but this is the playoffs. you made it. once youre in, you cant hide behind "gee, we're lucky to be here..." etc for when/if you lose. nobody lucks in after 162 games. the payroll guarantees us getting to the playoffs, after that it's a crapshoot/short series and nobody thinks lesser of any of the other teams. the unfairness of payroll et al is a totally different argument, and one im fine agreeing with you, since you'd for once be right for agreeing with me (to be read in the voice of Marley.)
1. the rules are the rules, i wont every bellyache over payroll discrepancies.
2. whos hiding? if the os lose, no one will make excuses. youre right, anything can happen in short series. that said, both teams had benefit of starters in preferred slots. bout as pure as it will get in best of 5. i like the orioles odds.
4. the orioles beat the Fuck out of the yankees for decades straight and vice versa. if i had a nickel for every backhanded compliment from yankee fans this yr while seemingly ignorant of history before 2000 id be picking up pok pok on way home.
5. these os are like bucks yanks in 95. every little bit of playoff exposure for young players is a plus+. if we can shut up the most entitled fanbase in the world in the process, well, that wld be rad.
6. next yr i expect the os to win the world series.
1. You are correct.
2. "i like the orioles odds." Eeeeeeeasing into the robes of power, are we?
3. i had no idea it's your habit to cry upon issue and don't really know why you brought it up here, but okay.
4. that's f**king Rrthur. not me.
5. are we more entitled than Manchester United? Really? hahahaha!! of course we are!!!!!!!!!!!!!
6. aaaaahhhhhhhhh, those robes feel pretty good, dont they!?!?!?!?
