In the case of a career-ending injury, the NCAA allows the school to continue financial aid to the injured player “off the books” (i.e. without it counting against the limit the NCAA imposes in each sport). It is a remarkable bit of common sense on the part of an organization that doesn’t show it very often.And all it took was one of the most gruesome injuries in televised sports history. How bout that. Congratulations NCAA, this finally pulls you ahead of MLB 1-0 in the "doing anything that remotely makes sense" game.

NCAA Shocking Development
I didn't see the endless reruns of the Louisville kid's broken leg and probably never will; I have yet to see the Theissmann injury after almost three decades. As bad as I feel for him, I feel that the biggest news story is the heretofore-thought-impossibility of the NCAA doing something that makes any kind of common sense, as this dude points out via Sully:
