In listening to the author speaking on C-SPAN3, I'm not sure I ever realized that the fly ball that Mickey was chasing when he got his foot caught in a drainpipe which set off a series of 18+ surgeries, ensuring that he'd never become the definitively best ballplayer ever, was hit by...fellow rookie Willy Mays.
UPDATE: Whoops. Guess I DID KNOW Willie hit that ball. Silly me.
