Oh Boy!

The Buddy Holly Story is on. Which means I'm watching The Buddy Holly Story.

Gary Busey's become such a punchline, it's hard to believe how he nailed this. I mean, he WAS Buddy Holly. According to the film's IMDB,
The actors did their own singing and played their own instruments live during the filming of the production numbers. Because of the film's budget constraints, most all of the performances were done in one or two takes. This led to some "happy accidents" of realism. For instance, Busey refers to handwritten lyrics on his guitar when singing "Mockingbird Hill", He flubs some of the song lyrics on the Ed Sullivan show performance of "Maybe, Baby", Buddy's vibrant concert performance with Eddie Cochran was actually a "rehearsal" that the director decided not to film again.
My only beef is they had him play a Telecaster when Buddy Holly was famous for playing a Strat. What the fuck? How could they flub that?

There's also one of my all-time favorite movie meals of all time, near the beginning. Sunday after-church dinner with his parents: fried chicken, mashed potatoes, corn and bread. Boom! Clean, simple. Like my own favorite meal from the past.

ALSO: is this the single most ticky-tacky entry in the history of goofs pointed out in IMDB:
In the roller-rink scene, Cindy Lou is drinking from a quarter-inch-or-more-diameter straw. In the 1950s, straws were much narrower and came in 2s.
And there it is: some dude getting laid less than me.
