Cavs/Warriors: Greatest Rivalry Ever?
This is a reminder of how pissed we all should be about the Lakers choking against the Rockets in 1986, as I said back in 2010.

That Feeling When...
...people you know aren’t priority boarding stream by you because Amtrak doesn’t bother checking their tickets.
Jim Bouton
I
read Ball Four almost every summer when I was growing up, and my first
summer in NYC was the one his son wrote the letter to the Daily News
asking the Yankees to bury the hatchet and let Bouton come back to
Yankees Stadium for Old-Timer’s Day. This will be a big day for fans like me:
Ex-Yankees pitcher Jim Bouton will take the mound one more time June 17 for what might be the most meaningful game of his storied career.
Bouton was named Thursday to the 2018 Old-Timers' Game, where he will be joined by legendary Bronx Bombers Homer Bush, Bucky Dent, Whitey Ford and Ron Guidry, as well as newcomers Jason Giambi and Aaron Boone.
In the crowd will be 54 guests of the 79-year-old knuckleballer, including his six grandchildren — four girls and two boys, ranging in age from 7 to 18 — who have never seen "Bulldog" in uniform.

On This Day du Jour
27 years ago today, Queen Elizabeth went to a Baltimore Orioles game!
Elizabeth then shed her gloves, and the 65-year-old British monarch nestled in for her first baseball game. As Oriole pitcher Jeff Ballard prepared to throw the first pitch, Bush announced in the box, 'Oh, here we go.'
The queen occasionally watched the game on a monitor to her right. When there was a close play at the plate, Philip drew his field glasses from a hip case. And don't worry - of course I found footage of the game!
British Royalty Mind Blown du Jour
In spite of its up-until-2013 male-preference primogeniture, the British monarchy has been ruled by a female for 130 of the last 198 years.
Straight Outta...Peckham?
Only Fools and Horses and NWA have something in common:
I thought I was imagining it, then I put them in the same picture, and the truth is undeniable: Only Fools And Horses and N.W.A. share a font! Seriously, look at the “N”. It is identical.
What a wonderful thing to have happened! The greatest British TV comedy and the greatest Gangsta rap group, united in logo type! Dreams are made of this!

DJT as RFK
Of
all the “I wonder how Trump would’ve handled this moment in so &
so’s place?” scenarios to consider, RFK speaking extemporaneously and
quoting Aeschylus after MLK’s murder has to be at the top of the list.

Boomerang!
For
years I’ve been bitching for a sequel to Boomerang and while this is close it just can’t be the same without that amazing cast.
Ideas. I Have Them.
The
Waffle House outside of Nashville where the shooting took place is donating all of its sales in May
to the victims and this is what I think every
celebrity/athlete in Nashville should do.
Presidential Empathy
Interesting article on the disparity between someone who's seen war up close and someone who hasn't, mostly in the form of George Bush 41 and Trump:
"But Xmastime", you say in the voice of Craig “Ironhead” Heyward from those soap commercials (RIP), “didn't you point out that voters don't care 10 years ago?"
Sigh. Yes I did, Xmastime fan(s), yes I did.
As reflections on his life swell, those considering Bush anew should note that he was not only the last President to have served in World War II, but also the last to have experienced battle first-hand.It's easy to pick on Trump, but his childishness (and that of many other Republicans, as pointed out in the article) in the face of a real hero like Bush should be a national embarrassment.
Five draft deferments during the Vietnam War precludes today's commander-in-chief from saying the same, though not from celebrating his military prowess. Trump even claims greater expertise than the generals he so frequently surrounds himself with, for civilian and military positions alike, boasting "there is no one more militaristic than me."
Of all his outlandish statements, none better epitomizes the way those ignorant of war have often come to be its greatest champions. Bush's current infirmity alongside Trump's pretensions, moreover, forces voters to consider if military or even combat experience should be a prerequisite for the Oval Office, especially when one considers that what Bush gained from his is something Trump and those like him ignorantly infatuated by military power frequently lack: empathy.

Concussed!
Me on the fear of letting your kids play football for fear of concussions back in 2012:
When I think of the small empire of 5-6 year-old boys close to me, I still think I'd be fine with them playing football in high school. The last high school football game I went to, maybe 10 years ago, I was laughing at how small the players were; they looked like lambs frolicking, rolling over each other. Now, if I find any of my guys suddenly weighing 300lbs and running a 4.3 40 while competing against the same I'll be worried, but in terms of normal-sized high school kids they have a better chance of getting a concussion by falling off their bikes than playing football, so.Now we see this report:
Sports may be a great way to keep kids active, but a new study of players finds that the earlier players with CTE started tackle football, the more vulnerable they were to emotional and cognitive problems.Hey, what can I say but this:
Researchers from the Boston University School of Medicine and VA Boston Healthcare System studied nearly 250 football players, of whom 211 were diagnosed with CTE after their death. CTE, or chronic traumatic encephalopathy, is a degenerative brain disease that often starts after repeated head trauma. Earlier studies have shown that the brain may change even after one hard hit.
