Your Daily Poe (Edgar Allan If You're Nasty)

As it's officially October (BOO!), I will on every day be reading one short story written by the Master of the Macabre himself, and briefly commenting on it. Enjoy!

Day 3: The Masque of the Red Death

Thoughts: Ah yes, finally the Genius of Ghoul has checked in! Good to get him out of the sea with his "vortexes" for a little bit. What's truly amazing about this one is its succinctness - only five short pages long, and the finale is swiftly executed in mere sentences. Brilliant rhythm: happy, happy, joy, joy OH SHIT and it's over. Even with the backdrop of death from the beginning, once you begin reading the only reason you know to carry along a heavy sense of dread is knowing who the author is.

Memorable Line: Too depressing to pick one - almost every line, as well as the plot itself, is a reminder of what we're all going though right now and the true monster making it worse for everybody. Almost scary how Poe nailed what's been happening just the last week.

Score of 1 - 10: 8
