1984/1966

Even while it was happening I thought 1984 was a super-American year. The Summer Olympics, Springsteen showing his ass on Born in the USA, iconic American shows like The Cosby Show ruled the airwaves, and on and on. Even just having Reagan doing his John Wayne thing somehow felt more American than usual. So it occurred to if British people think 1966 is the most British year ever - they won the World Cup (at Wembley!), Fleet Street was all the rage, the British Invasion was stepping on the throat of feckless Americans while The Kinks ruled with four big singles. And it turns out SURPRISE SURPRISE I was right:
