Earlier today I dropped in an update on Curt Claudio which included this tidbit:
He spent most of his life working on farms. We worked at Ford Motors in Milpitas, California until they closed the factory. Ford gave their employees $12,000 so could re-train for another job.
Ummm...what? Normal severance is a coupla months, no? Meanwhile, $12,000 in 1981 is $36,000 in today's money. How much could this hippy-dippy drifter possibly have been making in a factory? Was this just something big companies like that used to do for its workers?
Wow have times changed.
