Kid Life in the 1980s

Was there anything more exhilarating as a kid than that moment you walked up to a Pac-Man machine without a goddam quarter to your name while it was just randomly playing itself between games of people actually playing it, grabbing the joystick and deluding yourself into thinking "OHMIGOD I’M ACTUALLY PLAYING, I'M REALLY PLAYING!!!”?

And then was there any moment more deflating than when, only seconds later, you had to admit you knew you weren't actually playing?
