Morning Uber OMG am I a Racist?

I got into my Uber this morning and in looking at the driver noticed he was Asian. Not in a “oooooh now I’m going to come up with all the horrible thoughts ever about Asians!!” Way but in a way you just notice things way. Then, during a silent part of whatever podcast I was listening to - probably something or other about how financial ratios are no more objective than the accounting methods employed and any changes in accounting policies or choices can yield drastically different ratio values - I noticed someone was speaking in an Asian language on the radio. Without thinking I was like “oh wow, he’s learning Chinese, great for him” while it simultaneously dawned on me “hey idiot, he’s Chinese, he’s probably listening to a podcast just like you are!”

Sigh. Me - I’m really happening, aren’t I?
