The Beatles on This Day

I've read a million books on The Beatles and the one thing about this is I never really have felt 100% certain that everybody else is 100% certain that John & Paul were actually watching from across town that night and that anything from their end actually happened.

From The Beatles Bible:
Michaels was unaware that Lennon and McCartney were both watching NBC that night, and considered making the journey to the Rockefeller Center studio to claim the money. John Lennon:

"Paul and I were together watching that show. He was visiting us at our place in the Dakota. We were watching it and almost went down to the studio, just as a gag. We nearly got into a cab, but we were actually too tired… He and Linda walked in and he and I were just sitting there watching the show, and we went, Ha-ha, wouldn’t it be funny if we went down, but we didn’t.
For one, Lennon was pretty famous for just spouting anything at any moment to amuse himself. And are we REALLY supposed to believe they got THAT close to going but didn't go? I dunno.

Meanwhile, George Harrison showing up a few months later to try & collect was actually one of the funniest moments on the show - CERTAINLY the greatest casual use of the word "chintzy" on tv 🤣🤣🤣
