There's a lot of fuss about Paul McCartney's recent book of photographs he found he'd taken when The Beatles hit America and they're obviously fascinating and here's an excerpt but all I can think of now is this picture he took of Ringo setting up his drums for their whatever-word-is-higher-than-iconic appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show:
I mean dafuck - I've watched the clip a billion times & it's never occurred to me how tiny his drum riser actually was - how bananas would it have been if in a fit of exuberance he toppled off the drum stool and down onto the floor, in front of 70 million people, halting The Beatle's whatever-word-is-higher-than-triumphant moment about to take over the world? Would it have changed the band's fortunes forever, and therein so much of everyone's lives ever since?
It's true what they don't say: life really is a game of inches.
