Kristmas Kinks Kolorful* Konnections

The Kinks' classic Father Christmas is a perfect song showcasing the brutality of class during such a stressful time of the year; the kids robbing Santa don't just want his money instead of stupid toys, they're aware enough - as children - of the harsh realities of the world they're in that they implore "Santa" to give their father a job because he's got mouths to feed. Incredible.

Another of my all-time favorites is of course Do They Know it's Christmas, and as we recall from here Bono has always gotten a lot of shit for the line "well, tonight thank God it's them instead of you", and now I wonder if Geldof was inspired by one of Ray Davies lines from his own Christmas song just 7 years earlier:
