In all the books or documentaries about The Beatles' remarkable time in Hamburg, there's always a part about whenever John Lennon would make the crowds go crazy by breaking out in a Nazi salute while shouting "Heil Hitler!" and goosestepping around the stage while the usually wasted crowd went crazy howling & laughing, egging Lennon on to be more outrageous each time. This is normally framed as an act of rebellion combined with drunken craziness, with Lennon sticking it in the German's faces just 15 years after the end of World War II, but now I wonder if the ACTUAL remarkable part is that maybe Lennon wasn't being "rebellious!" or "crazy!" at all and what really was happening was the Germans taking any opportunity to loudly show that of course THEY were just as horrified by Hitler as anybody else and were in as much a hurry to bury the memory of the atrocities altogether. as everybody else was.
Will his supporters do the same with Trump? I mean one day, some day, this absolute waste of human garbage really will be gone from the national stage. Once their Turd King is finally gone and they have to accept some sort of reality (never mind responsibility, of course), will they quickly spring to declare that oh non non o THEY of course NEVER liked Trump, not ME!! etc etc etc. I mean look how quickly anyone who'd voted for Bush seemed to VANISH the moment he was gone, with everybody at the time trying to deny they'd supported him twice. And he was a political scion, ascending within the natural order of whatever the Republican Party once was at the time, not the Golden Toilet Boy King.
I have a feeling the Trump tattoo will be much harder to wash off, but we'll see I guess.
