Of course I enjoyed The Holdovers, but by the end I realized they'd played with/didn't play with whatever expectations I had at every turn, whether it was about class or race or both, that the second it ended I was a little bummed; I wondered how great it would be for the filmmaker to have made the movie, watched it with my own eyes/suspicions etc and then started over again but with everything he'd learned from the first viewing. I can't put my finger on why, other than that's happened to me a million times creatively myself.
But of course like I said good movie, obviously Paul Giamatti is great and how awesome is it that of all the people in the incredible Only Murders in the Building cast the one with an Oscar now is NOT Steve Martin or Martin Short?
