I always assumed that once Trump’s first presidency flamed out Republicans would distill whatever they thought worked about him down into something that could be transferred into a more normal-seeming human being who would still deliver on the GOP Stations of the Cross – white supremacy & never taxing rich people – but 9 years into Trumpmania they’re clinging to him more (embarrassingly) than ever, which only goes to further prove that in the end for these people it’s not about anything more than what we've always known, that the cruelty is the point. Incredible.
