A Hard Day's Night, the third Beatles album, was released 60 years ago today π€πΊπ₯πΈπΈπΈππ π¬π§
It’s weird that it’s even possible to say this, but A Hard Day’s Night is somehow overlooked/underrated in The Beatles' canon; it’s seen as the beginning of their middle period and some sort of link between their earliest stuff and their more “mature” albums but it’s totally bananas how it’s never mentioned in “Best Beatles album” arguments, considering:
The cover is iconic
The title song is iconic
The opening chord to the opening song is so iconic there’s been entire books written about it
It touches rock & roll, country, Motown, ballads, Mexican guitar, and more
Gave birth to an entire generation of 12-string electric guitar players
Only Beatles album that’s solely made up of Lennon/McCartney songs
I mean that’s just a few out of a million things that are great about the album, without even feeling the need to remind everybody that the songs are all so great, but it always gets lost in the shuffle/race to declare how Rubber Soul was the “real” start of their genius. But I disagree; many times throughout the years I’ve considered it to be my #1 Beatles album, and it’s always in my top three. But it’s crazy how this album, a record probably fucking recognizable by Martians, is kind of, almost, in terms of Beatles popularity anyways, overlooked somehow. π€π€·♂️
