It's funny that Patti Smith and Elvis Costello have been lauded for decades not only for being great songwriters but for being songwriters with a particular literary bent and yet neither one of them wrote their most well-known song - Brice Springsteen wrote Because the Night and Nick Lowe wrote (What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding - and if I'm being honest Patti Smith's SECOND most well-known song is nothing more than "let's stick a spoken-word intro onto Van Morrison's classic Gloria", so...🤔🤷‍♂️.
