Every once in a while the self-checkout at Wegmans asks me if I’d like to add $1 (I usually don’t look at the other $$$ giving options) to my shopping total in order to help (something, maybe a kid’s hospital? Should I know this? 😬) and I’m usually happy to; $1 on top of $30 or whatever is a small price to pay for feeling good about helping somebody else. And they always announce it after you hit the button, “ONE DOLLAR!” it loudly boasts to anybody within earshot.
The other day I was about to finish checking out & some smoking hot chick glided up to the register next to me and without hesitation I hit the $5 giving option, the highest one, and as it was announcing to everybody “FIVE DOLLARS!” I frantically tried to figure out how to convey to her that not only was my largesse impressive in & of itself and maybe worth a little sit-down at the Wegmans hot bar to get to know each other, but that $5 was on top of my entire shopping bill which was only $4!!!!!
But I couldn’t figure out how to do it in a perfectly natural way without breaking my stride while walking away but I couldn’t so I just slunk out the door like usual.
