Seems Very Simple to Me But I'm an Idiot So 🤷♂️
Some people have a lot of thoughts about Joe Biden forgiving student loan debt, mostly because they're fucking assholes, and he's doing some more of it before his term is up but this jumped out at me:
Is this a thing? If it's not, shouldn't it be? Why not reward people who go into public service by allowing that to chip away at their student debt? Maybe it's some formula, every dollar they make the government matches 50¢ or something. Why not? Besides helping young people not be so buried under mounds of absurd debt that neither they nor anybody deserves, wouldn't it attract more young talent? Why not just turn it into some version of whatever the Peace Corps is, so that super-smart, ambitious young & talented people want to contribute to the public good through work they may find more meaningful & satisfying than whatever they hafta do to try to pay down their student debt until they drop dead in their mother's basement? Sure, some will peel off in a few years for some "real" $$$ anyways but some won't, and there will be a perpetual influx of new, eager ones to fill in every year.
