I flopped over onto my back, clutched the pillow over my face, and thought about when I was a kid, when hardly a day would go by without my either getting an ass-whipping from my parents (well-deserved, I might add) or being made to stand in the corner for half an hour for some idiotic, childish indiscretion. While in the corner seething at my parents I'd fantasize “boy, when I get outta this corner, I’ll show them!” and dream of wandering out into the road and getting run over by a tractor trailer, and when my mom and dad came rushing out to cradle my limp, blood-soaked body, with my final words I’d bravely whisper "I forgive you..." and then slip away amidst their shrieking wails of grief, damning them to forever live with what they had done to me.

Sneaky Sneaks!
From WILLIAMSBURG RATS: A Manny's Tour of Duty:
