Is Rubber Soul The Beatles' best tambourine album? Even an album track like I'm Looking Through You which otherwise would be unremarkable by this crew's incredible standards is uplifted by both a sound & playing that I don't think I've noticed on an album before or after Rubber Soul - could this have been a happy side effect of what we know about James Jamerson's bass playing being the biggest influence on McCartney at the time, making it feel natural to dial up another part of Motown's sound which was the incredible tambourine playing of (the still alive!!) Jack Ashford? 🤔🤷♂️
