One of the earliest books I got my beady little paws on that was exclusively about the college radio/alternative music of the 1980s I'd loved so much was Gina Arnold's Route 666: On the Road to Nirvana, which I bought at the Oxford Mississippi Mall in 1995; I lost it years ago (mighta left it here!!) so of course I remembered "oh yeah I can click a button and it will show up at my door tomorrow" and I’m glad I did, since it instantly made me think of one of my favorite rock book quotes of all time, from the day in 1983 when she realized her own generation's music was happening all around her, and she didn't have to co-opt the music of previous generations:
I came across a quote from Peter Buck that completely turned around my way of thinking about rock: "I guarantee that I have more records from 1983 in my collection than any other year.”Rave on Pete Buck! And welcome back Gina Arnold!
