Yes, No, What?

To me, the thing about California voting to ban gay marriage is that I wonder how many people vote while confused about the question. For instance, whenever I hear that "California voted YES", my first thought is "California voted yes TO GAY MARRIAGE;" after a few seconds I realize that they voted yes to BANNING GAY MARRIAGE. Seems mildly confusing; I'm not saying it would change the outcome, but I wonder how many votes got switched because of it.

Mississippi voted to ban gay marriage four years ago. I can't speak for the wording on California's ballot, but in Mississippi it was extremely confusing. I shouldn't have to read my ballot 5 times before casting a vote. It went something like this:
In section 4 of line 3.2 in the amending to amend the rhetoric of Mississippi law as provided by the parties of legislation in the event that two parties should lawfully wed unlawfully the event in question should be in agreement with the people for of like gender.....
Huh?
My mom later informed me that their preacher had told the congregation to vote yes in order to oppose gay marriage. Four years ago and I am still growling under my breathe typing this. Fucking Infuriating!!! I think your instincts on point, Xmas.
