The Middle East holds 54% of the world's oil, and it has become well-known for being the centerpiece in countless wars over possession of that oil - hell, we're currently in a few wars ourselves, shedding blood and countless dollars for the right to buy oil. It is a broiling cauldron of war, and we all shrug our shoulders "well of course, there's so much money there" etc etc.
Meanwhile, Switzerland holds about 33% of the world's personal wealth ($7 trillion) and yet it is FAMOUS for being neutral. You have a better chance of getting eaten by a shark at Wrigley Field in late October than you do seeing anything go down in Switzerland. Interesting.
