A Change Isn't Gonna Come?

via SULLY:
Let me put the thought experiment slightly differently however. Suppose an agent arrived in the offices of Limbaugh/Beck/Hannity/O’Reilly etc. with an offer. “I can guarantee you a deal that will pay you twice as much - bring you twice as much fame - and extend your career twice as long - if you’d say the exact opposite of what you are saying now.” Which of them would sign?
Which is the same thing I asked back in August HERE.
I think to claim Glenn Beck is speaking from his heart and is a racist because of what he said about Obama is giving him way too much credit. We're talking about someone who is paid millions to say ridiculous things to get ratings; we're talking about someone who is a vacuum of real thought. He is depicted as the most extreme of the extreme right, he is SO horrified by Obama he looks like he's about to burst....yet does ANYbody think that if he was offered one more dollar to go on the air and say the exact opposite, he wouldn't? Hell no.
As I went on to say in that post, if you offered me $10M to go on the air every day and call my mother a whore, of course I'd do it.

XMASTIME: White Plains, you're on.
WP: So how big a whore was your mom?
XMASTIME: Huge. Big. The biggest. Ithaca, what's up?
ITHACA: She sounds like she was a whore!
XMASTIME: Ithaca, stay on the line, we're gonna send you a t-shirt. Okay, coming up on the show we got Tim Meadows, aka The Ladies Man, to talk about my mom. Stay tuned.

One of the things that seems to be driving the (cough) "mainstream media" crazy is the passion of the many blogs out there, labeling them as Cheetos-addicted loonies in their mom's basement. Which, of course, some of them may be. But maybe the actual fear is that while any Joe Q. Public with a blog may be overly passionate, he really has no incentive to be anything but 100% as honest as he can be. Sure, he may be wrong about something, but he's not purposely skewing his view because he's getting paid to do so. But of course, he probably doesn't have the huge audience a Glenn Beck might (or whatever the liberal equivalent is, Stewart + Olbermann + Maddow maybe?),  so a million blogs earnestly trying to get the truth out to people without being paid is canceled out by one guy screaming lies to a million people for a ton of money. Who knows how long until the two things meet on some sort of graph line of efficiency?  Maybe never, as long as these guys are getting paid as if they can throw a 103mph slider.
